2. Power & Knowledge

I don't remember what book I got this line from, but I do remember myself scribbling and copying every line right after reading it because I felt it was something I needed to hear and to keep looking back on. The book was not mine, it belonged to the library, so it would be very absurd to highlight it.

Knowledge is not power but power potential, and rather it is the application of knowledge and not knowledge itself that constitutes power as we think of it.

The more time one spends learning any specific thing, the less time they have left on the Earth to learn other things. And those things you’re not learning could be, unknown to you, more helpful to your personal power than the things you have chosen to learn.

Naturally, the accuracy of a choice tends to increase with the slowness with which it is decided, and thus there’s an argument to be made that slower more accurate choices are superior to quicker and more sloppily made ones. Regardless, momentum is the achieving man’s friend, procrastination is his enemy.

Simply doing is insufficient, doing is necessary, but more importantly one must seek to refine how they do.

Don’t wait for the world to appreciate what you have to offer, and grow resentful when you don’t receive the recognition you feel you’re due. Do what you do for its own sake, because it fulfills you and you believe in it. View recognition as a bonus, not the aim nor the end. If you feel happy only when people praise you, you’re giving you happiness in the hands of others. Do what you do best Regardless of the size of your audience.

Finally, Knowledge won’t reveal itself to those who want:

  • Wealth
  • Status
  • Power
  • Women

Knowledge reveals itself to those who seek to temper their ego. And from those who temper their ego, only the sincere will receive wisdom from said knowledge. Knowledge will reveal itself to only those who want to learn.

Thank you for reading. See you in the next Chapter
